Happy belated Easter/Passover everyone! I would like to tip toe around the religious significance that surrounds this holiday and focus only on the other tradition- eating. For my family the Easter holiday involves a whole lot of eating. Luckily for me it was “say yes to everything week!” This meant that I did just that- I said yes to absolutely everything, without hesitation, for an entire week. YES I did!

I said yes to chocolate. Yes to having a hardboiled-egg-eating competition with my little brother Jay. Yes to cabbage rolls. Yes to mashed potatoes soaked in mushroom gravy. Yes to turkey. I think you get my point. I over indulged and I liked it.

My saying yes wasn’t limited to eating. It was in everything that I was asked to do.

-I said yes to going to the Pixies concert on Wednesday even though it meant missing my favorite yoga class and giving up teaching a yoga class.

-I said yes to taking the cinnamon challenge and thought I was going to die.

-I said yes to rollerblading at the beach with my friend Chan although I cannot rollerblade.

-I said yes to eharmony and have 22 potential dates for next week.

-I said yes to wearing my PJ’s and watching movies for an entire day (something I have not done in years).

-I said yes and booked a trip to Spain!!

-I said yes to posting the ugliest, most embarrassing video of myself ever. Seriously watch it I can’t believe I am doing this I need to change my name.

It is so easy to say no to things and stay locked in your routines and closed off from new experiences. This challenge allowed me to become aware of how much I say no. I do the same thing everyday- I wake up, go for a run, go to work, go to yoga and then go home to bed. Holy crap I desperately needed to get a life. I desperately needed to start saying yes to life.

I am so happy I finally vowed to step out of my little box and say yes to everything. Who really cares if you make a fool out of yourself. Who knows the embarrassing video I attached at the end of this post may fulfill my lifelong dream of getting on the Ellen show. I need to start taking more risks. I need to say yes without worrying about what others will think. Who cares if I look like a troll with really poor hygiene. I know that this video proves I am fearless and willing to stand true in my intention to say YES to everything.

I am going to continue to say yes more often. Say yes to missing yoga to attend a concert. Say yes to dating a guy that isn’t my usual type. Say yes to close to death experiences. Say yes to looking imperfect at times for a greater good. Say yes to life. Say yes to egg-eating contests. Who knows one day I might beat these guys.

When you hear some teachings that ring true to you and feel some trust in its being a worthwhile way to live then you’re in for a lot inconvenience. From an everyday perspective it seems good to do things that are kind of convenient; there is no problem with that. It’s just that when you really start to take the warrior’s journey – which is to say, when you start to want to live your LIFE FULLY, when you begin to feel this passion for life and for growth, when discovery and exploration and curiosity become your path – then basically, if you follow your heart, you’re going to find that it’s often extremely inconvenient. –Pema Chodran

YES YES YES!
