The Check Up: Count your calories, not your chocula
I am NOT a doctor…but I am a cereal enthusiast.
Breakfast is commonly seen as the most important meal of the day and with good reason as it provides you with the energy to take on the day. One of the most tried and true breakfast meals come in the form of cereal.
As a youngster my brother and I had Fruit Loops, Trix and the like but still had to have healthy food accompany it. Even today, my all-time fave cereal is Count Chocula. I was stoked last weekend to score a box of double C, as well as Franken and Boo Berry, which I had never tried before. (I LOVE cereal and I will converse about it at the drop of a spoon.)
Sadly, these cereals, despite being high on my favorites list, are also high in sugar, fats and empty calories. This can lead to high blood pressure which can lead to heart disease and strokes.
All I am saying is, you don’t have to boycott these cereals, just don’t make them a daily staple. Treat yourself like a kid; have them on special occasions and in moderation! There are plenty of tasty and healthy cereals out there as well, such as Fibre One, Shreddies, Oatmeal Crisp, etc. etc.
