TOE JAM MONDAYS: It’s Not An Orgy, It’s Grouplove
This is a short post today, but that doesn’t mean I love this album any less than some of my favourites. It’s just that sometimes the music speaks for itself and its my turn to shut up.
Grouplove. Grouplove? is this some sort of techno beats that you have orgies to? or maybe a funk band with a string of trumpet players. These were my first thoughts when Grouplove first came on my radar last year. If you were the lucky recipiant of a limited edition Toe Jams mix tape called “Tuned In” you know what I’m talking about.
Their song “Colours” was the surprise hit of that mix tape with vocals that are a little out there but its just enough to catch your attention without scaring you off.

I had been waiting to see what this 5-piece from L.A would release and if it would stand up to “Colours”. They put out a self-titled EP that was good, but their full-length release Don’t Trust a Happy Song doesn’t only stand up to Colours, it surpasses it.
The opening track “Itchin’ On a Photograph” opens with this infectious hand clapping and then a simple guitar strum that turns into this magical artpiece that makes my heart beat faster and puts a smile on my face that I don’t even know is there.

This album was released in early September but was pushed to the back of my listening list for a while. So on my bus ride home from work last week I decided to give it my attention and loved it. It has a range of the catchy, fun jams that first hooked me, but they have shown their range with slower jams like the not so obvious track titled “Slow”.

Grab this album HERE and let Grouplove speak for themselves. I guarantee you’ll like it more with every spin. It’s dancable jams can be added to any playlist or if left to play, the whole album is a great soundtrack to any task.
Let me know what you think!
Happy Listening
