If you have been following along with my blogs over the past six months or so, you’ll know that in November of 2010, I went to do some photography in the country of Haiti with the group The Joy and Hope of Haiti.

Thanks to groups like this, and many many others, there has been enormous progress in the attempt to rebuild the poverty stricken country. The Joy and Hope of Haiti mainly focuses on children and the education system. If you want more information about this organization or think you might be interested in joining them on one of their missions, head over to their website and read more: http://www.joyandhopeofhaiti.com/

So where does Matt Hayes fit into all of this? Well on May 26th, The Joy and Hope of Haiti will be holding their annual charity auction to raise money to fund all of their future Haitian projects. Local Hamilton celebrity, Matt Hayes will be hosting the event all night long. This is a great cause and you have my word that your money will be going directly to assisting these projects.

If you are interested, here is the official press release.

HAMILTON’S PREMIER CHARITY AUCTION DINNER
IN SUPPORT OF THE CHILDREN OF HAITI
IS BACK AGAIN!

May 26, 2011 HAMILTON-For the 15th year, the Joy and Hope of Haiti Charity Auction is back! Join our host, Hamilton’s own Matt Hayes on May 26th at 6pm for a delicious sit down dinner with wine, followed by both a silent and live auction. This year there will be more than 400 items to bid on in our silent auction. The exciting live auction contains many luxury items such as trips, ski chalet, condo and cottage rentals and autographed hockey memorabilia and a fabulous door prize.

Now more than ever, the children in Haiti need your help and support. All proceeds from this event will be used to directly benefit the building of schools for the children of Haiti. This year our focus is on helping reconstruct two existing schools (not built by Joy & Hope of Haiti group) that are not safe to continue using in their current state. Of these schools, where approximately 1,000 children will receive a Christian education, some nutritious food daily and a safe and happy place to go to school, one has a student body of just under 700 children and the other school has a student body of approximately 200 students.

The Joy and Hope of Haiti has been involved in sending work teams to Haiti since 1989. Since then more than 500 individuals have travelled to Haiti to assist in the construction of various elementary schools, a trade/training school, an orphanage, a church and a basketball court/playground for the local children. The work is ongoing and never ending and with your help the Joy and Hope of Haiti can continue with construction projects to build schools and create small communities to help the people of Haiti climb out of the depths of poverty.

The success of our dinner and auction depends on the partnership and cooperation of the businesses and individuals in our community, so come out to Carmen’s Banquet Center located at 1520 Stone Church Road East in Hamilton on May 26, 2011 at 6pm and pledge your support!
